[Review] Mass Effect 2

Kevin Roberson

mass-effect-2-logo

Bioware’s had no big competition in the RPG market, so calling their RPGs good has never been held up to the scrutiny of real competition. I’ve always believed Mass Effect to be Bioware’s attempt to create a real challenge for itself by dropping the Star Wars title and seriously competing in the futuristic third person shooters market, a place with more competition than a 24/7 reality show network.

[Review] Dark Void

Kevin Roberson

darkvoid-logo

I don’t know why I keep advocating originality in games when they keep doing this to me. Dark Void is about a man who goes down in a plane crash in the Bermuda triangle, discovers a race of humans fighting against aliens in a subdemension, puts on a helmet and jetpack and flies off to save the world. How could they possibly go wrong? And yet they did.

[Review] Army of Two: the 40th Day

Kevin Roberson

ao2_intro

Army of Two always seemed to have its finger on the pulse of demographical statistics. There are a lot of twenty somethings out there with roommates whom they play games with, provided they’re big manly games about murderin’ dudes for justice. Given that the entire premise of the franchise is a perfect co-op experience between two best friends; I can’t imagine how they could have missed the point more.

[Review] Darksiders

Kevin Roberson

darksiders title

If Wet showed us what happens when bad game designers get a hold of a truly original gameplay concept, Darksiders shows us what happens when good game designers get their hands on formulaic unoriginal gameplay. Unsurprisingly, this results in about the same quality of entertainment.

Games I’m Looking Forward to in 2010!

Adam Bruno

lunaremkaepspg

With 2010 looming on the horizon, I can’t help but get a little excited. It’s a whole new year for video games, and – let’s face it, folks – this year kind of sucked. Sure, we had a few good releases here and there, but so many more games were canceled, and even several companies went belly-up.

Honestly, not the desired turnout. Luckily, next year’s looking a bit better, and I’ve got a list of games that I’ll be keeping an eye out for in 2010. Whether I plan on getting them or have simply liked what I saw, I’m hoping that they’ll turn out great. Feel free to comment on anything or even let me know which games you’re personally looking forward to. This goes for editors and visitors alike!

And so…my list! Keep in mind that the dates are tentative. How much do you wanna bet that half will be changed, and a quarter won’t even come out next year?

[Review] Brutal Legend

Kevin Roberson

brutal_legend1

(Sung to the tune of “Tribute” by Tenacious D)

Brutal Legend is the greatest and best game in the world…

Tribute.

One day, me and my Xbox were walking down a long and lonesome road. When suddenly, there shined a shiny Game store, in the middle of the road. And its sign said: “play the best game in the world, and get 10% off preorders.” Well me and my Xbox, we looked at each other, and we each said: “ok.” So we played the first game that came into my hands, and it just so happened to be the best game in the world.

It was the best game in the world.
