[Review] Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Kevin Roberson

Bad Company 2 appears to be EAs attempt to make the Battlefield Franchise more like the Call of Duty franchise. This may seem like it could be a step in the right direction for anyone who owned a console last holiday season, but I’m probably the only person on the planet who didn’t find much to be impressed by in Modern Warfare 2, so you can imagine my surprise when my beloved PC favorite Battlefield: 2142 suddenly took a few steps backwards to accommodate Xbox live and destructible buildings.

[Review] Star Trek: Online

Kevin Roberson

Star-Trek-Online-logo

Ok, we all know good Trek games are as rare as a squeamish Klingon, but Cryptic might just be on to something here. Not to say it’s “good” by industry standards, but it does break the mold a bit and has a lot more potential than, say, Star Trek: Legacy.

[Review] Dante’s Inferno

Kevin Roberson

dantes-infernolgoo

Dante’s Inferno is a hack-and-slash hell simulator. By this I do not mean that it is an atmospheric game which takes place in the underworld, I mean you will feel like you are being judged and punished for your sins whenever you’re interacting with this game.

[Review] Bioshock 2

You know what almost four years of production time between a game and its sequel means? It means a damn good sequel.

[Review] Mass Effect 2

Kevin Roberson

mass-effect-2-logo

Bioware’s had no big competition in the RPG market, so calling their RPGs good has never been held up to the scrutiny of real competition. I’ve always believed Mass Effect to be Bioware’s attempt to create a real challenge for itself by dropping the Star Wars title and seriously competing in the futuristic third person shooters market, a place with more competition than a 24/7 reality show network.

[Review] Gotcha! Celebrity Secrets is Amusing, Sign of the Times

Meredith Sweet

Gotcha - Celebrity Secrets001

Every now and again, it’s good to take a break from all those first-person shooters, monster-thrashing RPGs, and gem-matching puzzles. Enter the world of casual games, where companies like PlayFirst and Big Fish excel. Sure, a lot of their games are the same type of casual game, just in a newer, shinier package, but they can be surprisingly addictive and fun to play, like PlayFirst’s “Gotcha! Celebrity Secrets.”  I picked it up because PlayFirst offered me a $2.99 game from their selection of already low-priced games. I decided to pick the one where the protagonist looked suspiciously familiar….

[Review] Dark Void

Kevin Roberson

darkvoid-logo

I don’t know why I keep advocating originality in games when they keep doing this to me. Dark Void is about a man who goes down in a plane crash in the Bermuda triangle, discovers a race of humans fighting against aliens in a subdemension, puts on a helmet and jetpack and flies off to save the world. How could they possibly go wrong? And yet they did.

[Review] Army of Two: the 40th Day

Kevin Roberson

ao2_intro

Army of Two always seemed to have its finger on the pulse of demographical statistics. There are a lot of twenty somethings out there with roommates whom they play games with, provided they’re big manly games about murderin’ dudes for justice. Given that the entire premise of the franchise is a perfect co-op experience between two best friends; I can’t imagine how they could have missed the point more.

[Preview] Star Trek Online Open Beta: The Next Generation

Kevin Roberson

star-trek-online-logo

Kenneth Ellis appears to have transwarped his STO preview to the boards before me, but even Bones McCoy occasionally needed to get a second opinion. Damn it, man! I’m a reviewer, not a blogger! Number one, lay in a course for some lame joke about “boldly going where no MMO has gone before.” Engage.

[Review] Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgement

Kenneth Ellis

I was able to (under the cover of dark) get my hands on a early copy of Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment, and it did what it said it would: Flame my Judgment!
