Ellen Page Says “The Last of Us” Stole Her Face

Posted under News by Justin Oung on Tuesday, June 25th, 2013 -

The developers at Naughty Dog have released a game that I have yet to play, but have been wanting to play, for the past year.  The game is called The Last of Us.  It stars Ellen… I mean, a girl name Ellie played by voice actress Ashley Johnson, who has a very similar likeness to Ellen Page, the lead for the upcoming Beyond: Two Souls by Quantic Dream (Heavy Rain, Indigo Prophecy).

Beyond: Two Souls” starring Ellen Page

Ellen Page is upset by her likeness being in another game, which seems like a really shaky move by Naughty Dog.  Beyond: Two Souls is a huge project that stars two huge A-list actors, Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe, in lead roles.  The fact that the character’s name is Ellie in The Last of Us, and the fact that she looks almost exactly like Ellen Page when Ellen Page currently has a game coming out sometime this year called Beyond: Two Souls, is extremely alarming.  She worries that the likeness may cause some confusion among the gaming audience who may accidentally opt to buy the former game instead of hers.

Though hardcore gamers may scoff at the idea, it is a very real problem for the budding star looking to further her career in a new medium for storytelling.  If Guillermo del Toro is right in backing former studio THQ with the now in limbo survival horror title Insane, then A-list actors may have a chance to work in a new industry, and the first game to market and hire A-list actors with that kind of star power is hoping that their new killer app will pull in ungodly amounts of revenue.  Also, French developer Quantic Dream has been at the forefront of innovation in seeing the potential for video games narrative.

To err is human, to forgive is divine.  However, do you guys think this was done in error?  You can post your comments in the box below!
