Final Fantasy Drives Japanese PS3 Sales
| Chris Burke |

PS3 console sales in Japan jumped by 45,826 units last week. Just goes to show that Square Enix’s not-so-final franchise still has a lot of vitality, especially on its home turf. The full hardware-sales ranking after the jump.
- PlayStation 3 – 62,527
- Nintendo DS – 44,725
- PlayStation Portable – 40,065
- Nintendo Wii – 13,221
- Xbox 360 – 8652
- PlayStation2 – 4230
The sales jump makes sense when you factor in the recent release of Final Fantasy VII on the PSN , Advent Children on Bluray, containing an exclusive Final Fantasy XIII demo, and a special edition “Cloud Black PS3″.

Assuming buyers weren’t just clamoring for yet another copy of Advent Children or Final Fantasy VII, it’s an impressive response to a demo. As XIII’s holiday 2009 release approaches, it will be interesting to see whether the PS3 continues to lead console sales, or if this month’s jump was just a final gasp from die-hard fans’ wallets.
